All volunteers who work with children, young people or vulnerable adults must complete "Protecting God's Children" training, authorize a background check, and complete several forms.  Find details here.

Outreach Opportunities

April 25: Cluster #21 (Arboretum/Rea Rd/ Providence Rd area) Service Opportunity
Please join fellow parishioners on April 25 in preparing a meal for guests of the Hospitality House of Charlotte who are experiencing a medical crisis.   Prepare food in advance and assist in serving guests on April 25 at 5 pm or drop off in advance.  Please contact Nicole Tharrington at nltharrington@gmail.com with any questions. April 26:  HOM Apartment Set-Up
Set-up apartments for families moving into new housing.  Or donate the following items:  microwaves, paper goods, cooking utensils, laundry detergent and bath towel sets. Contact homfurniture.donate@gmail.com

April 28:  Men's Homeless Shelter
Prepare and serve dinner to guests at the N. Tryon Shelter.  Contact Wall Penilla for more information or to sign up at wpenilla@aol.com

April 29 - 30:  Share Sunday
Bring a bag of non-perishable items to Mass this weekend for our monthly collection to stock the food pantry at Catholic Charities.  

May 13:  Habitat for Humanity
Assist with building a home.  Work available for all skill levels, no experience necessary. Serve lunch, make phone calls or help on-site.  Must be 16 years of age.  Contact Danny Kelly at dkelly@kellymcardle.com

June 19 - July 7:  Freedom School
Assist when St. Gabriel hosts this summer enrichment program at Oakhurst STEAM Academy.  Many different opportunities to help including:
*Share a hobby/skill/passion with a class.  One-time, 45-90 minute commitment.  Contact Judy Fahl at  jfahl@me.com
*Spend 30 minutes reading to a group.  One time commitment.  Contact Chris Ryskiewich at cryskiewich@carolina.rr.com
*Supply shopper - Shop for specific materials for curriculum activities.  Reimbursement is available. Contact Laura Hull at 704-366-4907.

*On-going:  Levine Dickson Hospice House - Snack Collection
Help stock the pantry with nonperishable snacks for family members and patients.  Individually wrapped granola bars, trail mix, cookies, crackers, juice boxes, pretzels, are needed (preferably in bulk). Contact Meagan Quinlan at meagsgq@gmail.com

On-going:  Lap Robes & Prayer Shawls 
Our parish’s Sewing Guild Ministry provides lap robes and prayer shawls to nursing home residents and shut-ins, and our supply is very low!  If you knit or crotchet and would like to share your talents through this beautiful act of mercy, please contact Denise Murphy at 704-843-9660 or  dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org for details.  

On-going:  Freedom School Volunteers:
Fundraiser Volunteer

Submits application to the tithing committee, help coordinate the tags for the Angel Tree and plan other fundraising activities.
Teen Board Coordinator - Assists with promoting, recruiting and scheduling teen volunteers.
Supply Shopper Coordinator - Shops and purchases necessary supplies.  All supplies will be reimbursed.
*Intern Appreciation Coordinator:  Coordinates appreciation bags/tokens  for college interns for 3 weeks beginning in mid-June.

Baby Bundles: Provides newborn essentials to families in financial need.  View details here.

Crisis Assistance Ministry:  Provides assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.  View details here.

Hospitality House of Charlotte:  Offers temporary lodging to families and patients being treated at local hospitals. View details here.

*Southminster Retirement Home:  Volunteer opportunities for teens (15+) and adults to work with residents.  Music & Memory - create personalized playlists for residents; Pretty in Pink Cart- assist staff in pampering female residents with make-up, manicures; Daily Programming - play cards, lead a game of trivia, etc.;  Work in community garden. Parish Life Volunteer Opportunities

Catechists Needed
Volunteer to teach Faith Formation!  Share your faith with the next generation. Teachers and assistants are needed for 2017-2018 school year.  Teens who have been confirmed may serve as assistants.  Find details here.

*Coffee and Donut Volunteers (Sundays after 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 am Masses) Volunteers sign up in advance, choosing specific dates and Mass times.  Set up and clean up are simple, and this ministry is appropriate for everyone from singles to families with children, Scout troops, and teens who need serve hours. On-going: Office Assistance:  Do you have some free time during the day and interested in volunteering with others in the office?   Our Finance Department is looking for some volunteers.  Comfort with basic financial tasks is helpful.  Contact Elaine Bermudez if you would like to learn more at ebermudez@stgabrielchurch.org or 704-362-5047 x 241.  

Men/Women Ushers Needed at all Masses:

Prayer Ministry Volunteers
Pray for the intentions of our parishioners by receiving a postcard every month. Contact Karen Brown at 704-362-5047 x 214 or kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org 

Prayer Ministry Postcard Delivery
Help sort and deliver our package of postcards (200) to the post office each month, on your schedule.  Contact Karen Brown at kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org

1st Tuesday of the Month:  Shining Stars
Non-profit adult day respite program for people with early to moderate Alzheimer's Disease.  Help with games, social interaction and excerise. Volunteer needed to serve at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Contact Suzanne Bach at 704-335-0253.

Once a month: From the Heart Gift Shop
Volunteers needed to work one Sunday per month from the end of one Mass to the beginning of the next. Contact Theresa Anderson at tba1708@gmail.com.  (9:00 Sunday Masses have greatest need for volunteers.)

*On-going:  Words on the Wall at Mass
Volunteers are needed to administer the projector and laptop during weekend Masses. Responsible and older teens are invited. Contact John Krasniewski at jkrasniewski@carolina.rr.com. 

*On-going:  Greeters                      
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass and welcome people as they arrive in the Narthex.  Volunteers especially needed for the 5:00 pm Masses on Saturday and Sunday.  Perfect for smiling faces of all ages.  View details and sign-up online here.

On-going:  Welcome Table Volunteers   
 Stay 15 minutes after Mass and staff the Welcome Table in the Narthex (answer visitors' questions and provide registration information to newcomers.) Volunteers especially needed for the 5:00 pm Masses on Saturdays and Sundays.  View details and sign-up online here.

*On-going:  Rosary Makers              
Meets Thursdays from 10:30 - noon in Ministry Center, Room D to make rosaries for missions around the world and for sick relative, friends and parish members.  Most of our work is done at home.  If you are homebound, we will bring you instructions and pick up completed rosaries.  Questions?  Call Betty or Paul Donovan at 704-817-8780 or pedonovan@icloud.com

On-going: Altar Society
Our parish  Altar Society needs you!   This ministry launders and irons the Communion purificators for the church, maintains the holy water fonts and cares for the Adoration Chapel.  Volunteers help once every 4 to 6 weeks on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings for about an hour.  For more information, contact Denise Murphy at 704-843-9660, or dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org .
