Meet our Deacons
Deacon Mark Diener has been at St. Gabriel since his ordination in 2006. He grew up in the Detroit area and moved here in 1985. He is married to Kathy and they have four children and two grandchildren. Deacon Mark loves sailing, snow skiing, ice skating and ice fishing!

Deacon Michael Goad was ordained May 30, 2014. He has been married to his beloved, Lisa, for twenty years. He grew up in Aiken, SC and moved to Charlotte in 1998. He and his wife have been members of St. Gabriel since that time. He earned his Masters in Theology in 2008 from Loyola in New Orleans. Deacon Michael enjoys jogging, golf, mountain biking and scuba diving. His favorite Bible verse is; “Behold the Almighty One has done great things for me.”

Deacon Mark King was ordained June 12, 2005 in Connecticut. He moved to Charlotte in 2008, and was first assigned to St. Matthew. Deacon Mark works as a hospital administrator in cancer research. Mark has been married to his wife, Susan, for 30 years, and they have three daughters. He holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and an M.A. in Theology from Holy Apostles College & Seminary, Cromwell, CT. He is currently studying Spiritual Direction through Fairfield University’s formation program.

Deacon Larry O’Toole is from New York City and moved to Charlotte, with his wife Judy, in June 2010. They have three daughters and five grandchildren. Deacon Larry loves family and friends, enjoys reading good mystery novels and traveling!

Deacon Ben Wenning, retired, has been a deacon for 23 years, all at St. Gabriel. Deacon Ben is married to Dot and they have five children, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all in Charlotte. Volunteering at St. Gabriel keeps him busy as well as being an Airport and USO Chaplain, spending time with friends and doing new things with Dot.

Deacon Bob Gettelfinger, retired, has been a deacon for over 30 years, having been ordained in 1978. He has four children and five grandchildren. Deacon Bob enjoys spending time with his family.
