All volunteers who work with children, young people or vulnerable adults must complete "Protecting God's Children" training, authorize a background check, and complete several forms.  Find details here.

Outreach Opportunities


February 23:  Men's Homeless Shelter
Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve dinner on Friday, February 23.  Two shifts to choose from:  3:30 - 5:30 or 5:30 - 7:00.  Contacy Nancy Ivey to sign up or with questions at nanstev1@windstream.net

February 24 - 25:  Share Sunday
Bring in non-perishable food items to Mass and stock the shelves at Catholic Charities food pantry.  

February 28:  HOM 
Help with apartment setups and organize the storage house. HOMfurniture.donate@gmail.com

March 10:  Habitat for Humanity
Help a family move out of homelessness by volunteering at the Habitat worksite from 8:30 - 4:30.  Contact Danny Kelly at dkelly@kellymcardle.com

*Dates in March and April:   Meals for Southminster Levine & Dickson Hospice House

Refugee Resettlement Ministry 
St. Gabriel prepares to welcome our 3rd family.  We support families as they adjust to life in a new city and country.  Volunteers provide transportation, mentoring, tutoring and friendship.  Volunteers receive training from Catholic Charities.  Contact Tammy Greyshock for details at tsgreyshock@charlottediocese.org

On-going:  Visit the Homebound
Visit our homebound parishioners once a week and share your compassion with those who are not able to get out.  Contact Krish Sheheen at krisvt@hotmail.com or 704-362-1818

On-going:  Friendship Trays
Pick up and deliver lunch one day a month to a person who is homebound.  Substitute drivers are also needed.  Contact Carla Lewis for details at 704-364-6020.

*On-going:  Catholic Charities Food Pantry
Help serve clients on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Sort donations and re-stock shelves on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Volunteer once a month or more often.  For details, contact Tammy Greyshock, Volunteer Coordinator, at 704-370-3283, or tsgreyshock@charlottediocese.org. *On-going:  Levine Dickson Hospice House - Snack Collection
Help stock the pantry with nonperishable snacks for family members and patients.  Individually wrapped granola bars, trail mix, cookies, crackers, juice boxes, pretzels, are needed (preferably in bulk). Contact Meagan Quinlan at meagsgq@gmail.com

Baby Bundles: Provides newborn essentials to families in financial need.  View details here.

Crisis Assistance Ministry:  Provides assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.  View details here.

Hospitality House of Charlotte:  Offers temporary lodging to families and patients being treated at local hospitals. View details here.

*Southminster Retirement Home: Service opportunities for teens (15+) and adults to work with residents.  Music & Memory - create personalized playlists for residents; Pretty in Pink Cart- assist staff in pampering female residents with make-up, manicures; Daily Programming - play cards, lead a game of trivia, etc.;  Work in community garden. Parish Life Opportunities

Eucharistic Minister Training
Teens and adults who have been confirmed and feel called to serve are welcome.  Must attend one of two scheduled trainings:  Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7:00 pm or Saturday, March 17 at 10:00 am.  RSVP to Deacon Larry at lotoole@stabrielchurch.org

*Coffee and Donut Servers (Sundays after 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 am Masses) Sign up in advance, choosing specific dates and Mass times.  Set up and clean up are simple, and this ministry is appropriate for everyone from singles to families with children, Scout troops, and teens who need serve hours. Sign up here to volunteer.  

*Ushers Needed:  A Great Way to Serve
Do you attend the same Mass on a regular basis?  Consider serving as an usher - both men and women are welcome.  The need is especially great on Sundays at 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm.  Teens are welcome to serve on Sundays at 5:00 pm.  For details, please contact ministry leader Bob Fernan at 704-562-3802 or fernan3136@msn.com.   

Church Mice 
Help provide an inviting worship space by straightening up the missalettes and song books and removing bulletins and other items left behind after weekend Masses.  Ministry members meet on Monday mornings after the 8:45 am Mass for about 30 minutes.  Contact Lucy Jones at luciabill@windstream.net or 704-321-7118.

On-going: Lap Robes/Prayer Shawls needed
Knitted and crotchet lap robes and prayer shawls needed for residents in nursing homes, shut-ins and hospice patients.  Contact Denise Murphy at http://dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org or 704-843-9660

On-going: Bereavement Bakers
Provide 3 to 12 dozen baked goods for funeral receptions on an as-needed basis.  To volunteer or for more information contact Denise Murphy at dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org

Prayer Ministry Volunteers
Pray for the intentions of our parishioners by receiving a postcard every month. Contact Karen Brown at 704-362-5047 x 214 or kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org 

1st Tuesday of the Month:  Shining Stars
Non-profit adult day respite program for people with early to moderate Alzheimer's Disease.  Help with games, social interaction and excerise. Volunteer needed to serve at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Contact Suzanne Bach at 704-335-0253.

Once a month: From the Heart Gift Shop
Staff gift shop one Sunday per month from the end of one Mass to the beginning of the next. Contact Theresa Anderson at tba1708@gmail.com.  (9:00 Sunday Masses have greatest need for help.)

*On-going:  Words on the Wall at Mass
Run the projector and laptop during weekend Masses. Responsible and older teens are invited. Contact John Krasniewski at jkrasniewski@carolina.rr.com. 

*On-going:  Greeters                      
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass and welcome people as they arrive in the Narthex.  The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturday and Sunday are in greatest need.  Perfect for smiling faces of all ages.  View details and sign-up online here. 

On-going:  Welcome Table   
 Stay 15 minutes after Mass and staff the Welcome Table in the Narthex (answer visitors' questions and provide registration information to newcomers.) The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturdays and Sundays are in greatest need.  View details and sign-up online here.

*On-going:  Children's Liturgy of the Word
Teach short lesson to children (ages 4 years - 2nd grade) during the Gospel and homily on Sunday at 9:00 am Mass.  Lesson ideas are provided.  Contact Denise Gruender at dgruender@carolina.rr.com

*On-going:  Rosary Makers              
Meets Thursdays from 10:30 - noon in Ministry Center, Room D to make rosaries for missions around the world and for sick relative, friends and parish members.  Most of our work is done at home.  If you are homebound, we will bring you instructions and pick up completed rosaries.  Questions?  Call Betty or Paul Donovan at 704-817-8780 or pedonovan@icloud.com
