Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Greetings as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Ascension! I am grateful to share important news from the Diocese of Charlotte: effective immediately, social distancing and mask requirements are lifted at Masses following new COVID-19 guidance issued by federal and state authorities. As you deem appropriate for your own health, you are welcome to continue wearing face-coverings on our campus. The CDC urges unvaccinated individuals to continue wearing a mask.
The Sunday Mass obligation will be reinstated beginning next weekend - Pentecost Sunday, May 23 - for those who are healthy and not vulnerable to infection. Important exceptions remain in place, and we will continue to livestream Sunday Mass.
I encourage you to read the decree from the Diocese of Charlotte (linked below), which includes answers to questions you may have.
Throughout this summer, worship and the sacraments will continue to be our priorities at St. Gabriel. What happens on Sundays provides life-giving nourishment for your Mondays. From message and music to enhanced audio-visual, we are working hard to enrich the worship experience for all ages.
This fall, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Gabriel on Saturday, September 25, with a big outdoor Mass and parish picnic. Mark your calendars now! We also look forward to exciting new spiritual growth programs and phasing back in opportunities to participate in everything from our music ministry to community outreach. Thank you for praying for our staff and parish leadership as we plan.
This year of pandemic has been difficult in so many ways. We continue to pray for all who are still navigating these challenges, and we look forward with hope and trust in our Lord.
In the peace and joy of our Risen Lord,
Fr. Richard
