A quick look at our hurricane relief work since October 2024
100+ from St. Gabriel have served in western NC
October 2024 - April 2025, helped clean out and rebuild 30 mobile homes destroyed by flooding in the “Alan Campos” community in Swannanoa. Work was directed by the non-profit CORE
- SPRING 2025: Furnishing 2 mobile homes in Black Mountain that have been replaced in partnership with Catholic Charities
- SPRING/SUMMER 2025: helping clean out and rebuild 12 mobile homes in Black Mountain, NC, with work directed by the non-profit CORE and supported by Catholic Charities

At this time, no supplies (clothing, food, baby items, toiletries, etc.) are being collected through Catholic Charities or our parish. Help with cleanup and rebuilding in Black MountainVolunteers ages 18+ are needed to help with clean-out and rebuilding of 12 mobile homes in Black Mountain, NC, that suffered extensive flood damage. As in Swannanoa, work is being directed by the non-profit CORE and supported by Catholic Charities.
Due to the smaller scale of the work and very limited parking, volunteers must register through Hands On Asheville's website and wait for the work coordinator, Anna Britt, to contact you with a work date.NEW VOLUNTEER PROCESS!
- Must register to volunteer below - and wait to be scheduled for a work date. Workdays available most Mondays - Saturdays
- AGE: Must be age 18+
- SKILLS: No special skills needed but must be physically fit and healthy
- TYPICAL WORK: Typical work involves helping with clean-up and construction activity in the homes. Specific assignments change each day. Volunteers are not asked to do work they are not capable of doing.
- TRANSPORTATION: Volunteers drive themselves to work sites (about 2 hours from Charlotte). Most are doing day trips.
- FOOD AND NECESSITIES: Bring your own snacks and lunch. Toilet facilities on site.

Help with furniture delivery and set-up
Our parish and Catholic Charities HOM Ministry are supplying furniture and housewares for 2 families in Black Mountain (about 2 hours from Charlotte) who lost everything in the hurricane floods. Catholic Charities and our parish have helped with the costs of replacing their mobile homes.
Help needed with- Moving furniture into the homes (physical strength needed)
- Organizing the kitchen, placing furniture, and other set-up tasks
- DATES to be determined
Other notes- Provide your own transportation to Black Mountain
- Bring your own lunch and snacks
- Complete Hold Harmless Agreement form below
